CABRERA ARCHIPELAGO MARITIME AND TERRESTRIAL NATIONAL PARK

During this expedition we will conduct surveys of key pelagic species in the beautiful waters of Cabrera, near Mallorca. We'll spend most days out at sea, looking for sperm whales, Risso’s dolphins, common and bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, bluefin tuna, mantas and more. If we spot a loggerhead sea turtle, we place a satellite tag on it, in order to track its movements in the deep blue ocean, as part of our OASIS research program.

This expedition has a strong focus on fighting plastic pollution. Along with Spain's citizen science clean-up initiative, Proyecto Libera, we will be studying marine litter, its effects on wildlife and the presence of microplastics in the water. Part of the project will involve community outreach, and we will have our ship open to the public as a “floating exhibition” on marine litter and biodiversity.

This is a great opportunity to learn about marine conservation. For experts or science students, it’s a chance to find out more about your subject of choice or gain university credits.
